Emily Burkhead, BS, IBCLC

Emily Burkhead is an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant who joined Capital Area Pediatrics in 2026.

Originally from Baltimore, MD, she began her career in maternal health grant writing when she quickly discovered her passion for providing hands-on lactation care to support the mother–baby dyad. She has worked with families across the East Coast, including providing NICU-level lactation specialty care while living in Savannah, GA. She couldn't have imagined her own journey through pumping, bottle refusal and returning-to-work without the support from her lactation consultants, which deeply shaped her understanding of how invaluable that guidance is for families. 

Now back in the tri-state area with her family, she is passionate about helping families navigate their feeding journey in a way that feels realistic, supported, and goal oriented — no matter how big or small. 

Outside of work, she enjoys traveling, cooking with her daughters, family game nights, and competing in HYROX fitness events with her husband and three children.
